Dear Parents,

I know you are sending us a little piece of your heart today. We promise to take care of your children. We will keep them safe and help them learn so that by the end of this school year you will be in awe of the child you have. We are looking forward to a fantastic year and your partnership is critical to our success. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns and we will try to get a win-win. New kindergarten parents can join us in the library this morning for our Woo-Hoo/Boo-Hoo Break.

Welcome Our New AP
Dear Glenkirk Knights,

We are very excited to introduce our new Assistant Principal for the 2015-2016 school year, Mrs. Kaye Bush. Her official start date will be July 22nd. Here is her greeting:

"I am overjoyed to be joining such an awesome place of learning and becoming a Knight! I look forward to getting to know each and every member of my new school community, and I am eager to support learning and growing as a leader. Until I can meet you in person, I wanted to let you know a little bit about me.
I taught for 14 years as an elementary and middle school teacher. For five years I served as an assistant principal; two years at Westridge Elementary in Woodbridge and three years at Jennie Dean Elementary in Manassas. The last four years I served as a professional development coordinator with the Teachers Incentive Performance Award program where I partnered with twelve Title One schools’ staff to increase student achievement. I look forward to working with everyone to build upon Glenkirk’s successful foundation for learning and cannot wait to learn and grow with all of you!

I am proud and feel honored to be part of a school where children are at their best!"
Kaye Bush

Let’s all give Mrs. Bush a warm Glenkirk welcome and show her what it is like to be a part of our family!

Tdap Vaccine and 6th Grade Entry

Attention ALL 5th grade parents!

Dear Parents/Guardians of Rising 6th Grade Students: This is a reminder that effective July 1, 2014, a booster dose tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is required for all children entering the 6th grade. The Tdap booster is recommended by health experts to give adolescents added protection against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (better known as whooping cough). These potentially serious ailments are largely preventable with proper vaccination. Children must meet all Virginia school immunization requirements. If you have not already done so, please arrange for the Tdap booster for your child as soon as possible. Tdap boosters may be obtained from your doctor, military clinics, or the health department. Written documentation must be provided to your child’s school upon completion of this requirement. Please send the documentation of this vaccine to the school nurse. She will notify your child’s middle school that he/she has received the vaccine. This will ensure there will be no delay in beginning middle school. Your child will not be admitted to 6th grade on the first day of school without proof of the Tdap booster.
