National Bike to School Day

Join us at GES  for Bike to School Day, May 6th!

Also, students riding their bikes on May 6th will have a chance to enter a give-a-way for prizes including 4 bikes and several backpacks.  This drawing will include all of PWCS' entries.

Get your incentive for participating and your entry form for the drawing to win a bike or back pack  from Mr. Wild or Mrs. Bjorkman on May 6.

SOL Expedited Retakes

A letter regarding spring SOL expedited retakes was given to Glenkirk Elementary School students in grades 3-5 to take home today.  It is our hope that you received this letter as it is important for you to complete the bottom portion and return it to the school.  A copy of the letter (English and Spanish) is attached for your review and use.
Ms. Harrison, our Assistant Principal, serves as our test coordinator. She can be reached at with any questions or concerns.

2015-16 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration for Glenkirk Elementary
Thursday, April 23, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm

No appointment necessary.
Students who will be five years of age or older by September 30, 2015 are eligible.
We would like to perform an assessment of kindergarten readiness skills, so please bring your child.
New incoming students to Glenkirk (all grades) for the 2015-2016 school year
can register on this date as well.

PTO News

Thank you to everyone for a great weekend at the Noble Knights 5K/Fun Run, Spring Fling and Online Auction.  Race results will be posted soon.  Thank you to all the volunteers, everyone who came out, and our event chairs Amy Sachs and Beth Dumais. 
April 28 - Family Appreciation Knight during Knight at the Museum. Stop by the library for refreshments and door prizes on Tuesday Evening. We'd like to say THANK YOU to GES families for helping this be such a wonderful place to learn.
May 4 - 8 Teacher Appreciation Week - Stay tuned for ideas for how to make it a great week for our fabulous teachers and staff.

2015-2016 PTO Officer Nominations
It is time to start thinking about next school year! The PTO is accepting nominations for the PTO Officers for the 2015 - 2016 school year. If you love to volunteer, are looking for a great way to be involved or want to keep our organization strong please consider a leadership role! The positions on the Board include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Please submit your nomination via email to current PTO Vice President and Election Committee Chair, Jaime Sawyers at: Please include the following information: First and Last Name, Nominating Position and a 2 sentence description of yourself. (Example: Length of time at Glenkirk, grade(s) of child(ren) at Glenkirk, etc.) We will be accepting nominations this week with a vote to be held by the membership before the May PTO meeting. NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN TO ALL GLENKIRK FAMILIES, NOT JUST PTO MEMBERS. Thank you!

Tdap Vaccine and 6th Grade Entry

Attention ALL 5th grade parents! 

Dear Parents/Guardians of Rising 6th Grade Students: This is a reminder that effective July 1, 2014, a booster dose tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is required for all children entering the 6th grade. The Tdap booster is recommended by health experts to give adolescents added protection against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (better known as whooping cough). These potentially serious ailments are largely preventable with proper vaccination. Children must meet all Virginia school immunization requirements. If you have not already done so, please arrange for the Tdap booster for your child as soon as possible. Tdap boosters may be obtained from your doctor, military clinics, or the health department. Written documentation must be provided to your child’s school upon completion of this requirement. Please send the documentation of this vaccine to the school nurse. She will notify your child’s middle school that he/she has received the vaccine. This will ensure there will be no delay in beginning middle school. Your child will not be admitted to 6th grade on the first day of school without proof of the Tdap booster.
